Education

I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Science dual degree in Biology and Mathematics with cum laude academic honors. I am currently attending Boston University's Master of Science in Bioinformatics Program.

Experience

I was a Calculus I Math Mentor (Teaching Assistant) at RPI. Along with preparing lesson plans for my classes each week and administering quizzes, I provided mentoring for success at RPI. Each week I added another dimension to the class to keep students engaged, such as having students work in groups and playing Jeopardy as a review game! I was also a Learning Assistant at RPI through the Advising & Learning Assistance Center and the Office of Residential Education. In this role, I was the primary academic resource for 150 first-year students living in the residence hall and I mentored the students to help them become active, independent, and successful learners. My responsibilities included presenting educational workshops designed to teach valuable time management and study skills to freshman residents, holding weekly office hours and “rounds” to interact with residents, and helping freshman residents who were struggling academically. I have been on the Dean's List for every semester from Spring 2009 to Spring 2012 and participated in clubs on campus, such as the Women's Mentor Program. I also was an aftercare teacher at The Susan Odell Taylor School for three years, until I graduated and moved to Boston. I worked with students in pre-school through 6th grade and helped the older students with their homework. During my time at RPI, I have always taken any opportunity to help other students. I love being able to make a difference and help a student succeed academically. I understand that every student learns in a different way and I always strive to find the most effective way for each individual student to study.
